If you have been dumped you are probably hurting really badly right now. Perhaps you’ve reached out to your Ex and only made matters worse. How do you know if you should stay in your relationship? At one time or another every person in a relationship will ask that question. Maybe it’s just the doldrums or maybe there are real problems that you have been denying and now you should face. Perhaps you should spend time evaluating your relationship. Come to some conclusions, make decisions, and take action.

You shouldn’t take any decision like this, about your relationship lightly: a solid relationship is one of the most important and valuable things in any ones life. Ending a relationship without trying to nurture it and make it work is not good. Likewise staying in a bad relationship or staying in a relationship too long is not good.

A therapist can be of immense help in evaluating your relationship but many decide to do it on their own, here are some guidelines to seed your evaluation:

1. Do you fear your partner? If you do it is a sure sign that your relationship is not healthy. You shouldn’t be even the tiniest bit fearful. Relationships should be love based and where love is present fear cannot live.
2. What is the power distribution in your relationship. The more evenly that the two of you share power, the better your relationship is apt to be. You should both be in the relationship because you want to be and not for reasons like, “I don’t have enough money to leave.”
3. Is your partner dangerous. I mean can you trust them not to bet the house or the food money. Can you trust that he not engage in physically dangerous activities.
4. If you could have anyone in the world would you choose to be with your partner.
5. Do you feel like your partner encourages and supports you in the things you want to do? Alternately, does your partner belittle you when you seek to advance, improve yourself, or take on new challenges. Is your partner secure enough with himself or herself to cheer you on, or to help with some of your tasks so you can devote time to your pursuit. If not, are they really being the supportive person that you need. While you consider, do they actively help or is it just lip service.

As you evaluate your relationship with your partner keep these things in mind. It is easy to get off in some rationalization but if you come back to these questions they will keep you grounded.

Evaluating your relationship takes courage and honesty but it can bring you big rewards. Have you ever been blindsided in life? Sometime something happens and changes everything you had planned and hopped for. A breakup is that kind of thing and as much as they hurt you may find that they are the best thing that ever happened to you. If you learn to know the end of relationship breakup signals you can avoid much of the pain involved. 3. A change in intimacy, have they changed their attitude about having sex with you? Do they not care if there is sex anymore? Sex is one of the big fringe benefits of marriage and normal people in good relationships love it. It is not only pleasurable but it helps bind you to each other. If your partner suddenly doesn’t really care then you have a relationship in trouble.

If your relationship is headed onto the rocks don’t you want to know about it? There is no reason to be blindsided and go through the agony. Get out of denial and don’t get caught having the rug pulled out from under you. It may also be possible if you see the signs early then you might even avoid the breakup.

It has been said over and over again that men and women communicate differently. And so it is when there is a breakup. You hear one thing from her but she is really saying something else. 6. Don’t stalk her but you might occasionally show up somewhere where she hangs out. Say hello but be prepared to talk to others.

7. Be sure to send a card on her birthday if that falls within this time and if there is an important date between the two of you you might send a short note or card telling her what it means to you.

8. After a month or so you should evaluate where things are. Is it time to move on, should you look for a new girlfriend, or is your Ex girlfriend still the one for you?

9. If nothing is happening and you still want her back perhaps you should ask someone else out and then call her to get advice on a good place to go on the date. This will put things firmly on her ground and cause her to think about whether she is ready to let you go.

If things work out she may decide that she wants you back on your terms and that would be wonderful.

During this process consider your part. Often couples in the heat of the moment dredge up all the garbage in their relationships and say all the wrong things. Maybe your family or her family argued all the time and perhaps that is the only way that you have learned to communicate. Consider instead that you have moved beyond that to a new way of first understanding and then speaking. Avoid the things that you know are only intended to hurt when you speak them. Instead speak out of caring, out of love.

Losing someone you love hurts.  Getting your girlfriend back is possible but the way to do it is not always intuitive.   You need a good strategy, based in sound psychology, and one that you can be put into action quickly.  After all other guys are out there who will take her and you don’t want to loose her to a rebound relationship.

My male friends have finished with girls for:

1) wearing the wrong type of shoes!
2) Her mother
3) The new barmaid at his favorite bar smiled at him.

Now ok I know that a pretty face can turn any man’s head and there is the dreaded notion that a woman may turn into her mother but come on guys – the wrong type of shoes?  If women didn’t date men because of the clothes they were wearing the human race would have died out long ago.  Behind every well dressed man is a good woman- in early life his mother and later his wife!

I always tell my men friends that they need to make a list before they break up with their partners.  On one side of the list, you put her good points.  Do you find her interesting? Does she look after you?  Does she cook for you?  Does she laugh at your jokes?  Are you attracted to her?

On the other side of the list, they can put the things that wind them up.  Ok she may nag at little too much but then if you put the toilet seat down she might stop.  She may not want more than a cuddle every evening but five times a week doesn’t mean that she isn’t caring enough.

Writing the good and bad points of your life together down on paper may seem like a cold approach but it is a very practical way of seeing what a great relationship you do/did have. You need to compare the two lists and decide if you should be breaking up with this woman. If you are doing it after the event, it also helps to clarify if you made the right decision to finish the relationship. Sometimes we regret breaking up as we end up feeling lonely.  But loneliness is not a reason to get back together.

If you have dumped the lady in your life but now know it was the wrong decision you need to act fast.  Great life partners do not grow on trees.  She has shown that she will put up with you in all your glory – how many women would be mad enough to do that?

Keri called Sam that night and told him that she never wanted to see him again.  She called him a number of unprintable names as well.

Of course, Sam felt bad about the whole situation.  He knew he had a lapse of judgment, but didn’t think that one evening of bad behavior should end a good relationship.

So, Sam jumped right in and tried to win Keri back.  But, as we will see, he did everything wrong.

First of all, when Keri called, he groveled.  Rather than apologizing and moving forward, he begged Keri to take him back.  She, of course, was in no mood to do so.  She was justifiably angry.’

How To Keep A Woman Happy

Then, he compounded the problem by pursuing her aggressively in the next few days.  She got more than a hundred texts from him in 6 days.  He called at least 3 times a day including once at 1 in the morning.  He sent flowers to her at work.

Then, a week later, completely desperate, he went and sang love songs under her window.  Her neighbors called the police.

Sam’s first problem was that he didn’t give Keri a chance to breathe.  She needed some space to decide whether to go on with the relationship.  And, her dumped boyfriend took that space away.

When nothing seemed to work, Sam decided on another tack.  He started seeing other girls and flaunting it in her face.

Keri had a friend named Robin who never seemed to be able to get a date.  Sam asked Robin out and she accepted.  Then, Sam called Keri and asked her where Robin would like to go on their date.  Sam thought that Keri would be jealous when she heard he was dating her friend.

But Keri was furious.  She felt that Sam was taking advantage of Robin to get back at her.  And, she felt Robin was selling her out.  Sam was making no headway here.

When Keri started dating a new guy, Sam did everything possible to disparage the boyfriend.  He tried to compare the new guy unfavorably to himself.

Unfortunately, by this time, Sam had burned all of his bridges.  Keri had moved on and didn’t want to have anything further to do with Sam.

The relationship didn’t have to end like this.  Keri could have forgiven Sam for his lapse at the party.  But, because Sam acted like an oaf afterwards, he lost the ability to get her back.  If you are a dumped boyfriend, don’t compound matters by being a Sam.
